Mecayla grew up in Burnaby playing for Action Volleyball Club. She played on the varsity team at Burnaby South Secondary and has coached their senior and junior girls programs for the past 5 years. She also coaches with Volleyball Canada, at the National Excellence Program (NEP) offered at Cariboo Hill Secondary as a Stream 2 Head Coach. Mecayla loves the game and aspires to train her athletes to not only be better players, but to have good attitudes, to be self-confident, and to demonstrate compassion on and off the court.
